Knowledge Notebooks
Knowledge Notebooks are organized document libraries for storing and categorizing your research materials.
Overview
While Research Notes are for active note-taking, Knowledge Notebooks are for:
- Document storage — PDFs, articles, reports
- Reference materials — Industry standards, guidelines
- Curated collections — Organized by topic or theme
- Team resources — Shared knowledge base
Creating Notebooks
New Notebook
- Navigate to Research → Knowledge Notebooks
- Click + New Notebook
- Enter a name and description
- Choose a category or create a new one
Notebook Structure
Each notebook can contain:
- Documents — Uploaded files or linked content
- Sections — Organize content within the notebook
- Notes — Additional context or summaries
Adding Content
Upload Documents
- Open a notebook
- Click + Add Document
- Drag and drop files or click to browse
- Supported formats: PDF, DOC, DOCX, TXT, MD
Link External Content
- Click + Add Link
- Paste the URL
- Molley fetches the title and preview
- Add tags and notes
From Browser Extension
Use the browser extension to save content directly:
- Browse to any webpage
- Click the Molley extension icon
- Select Save to Notebook
- Choose the destination notebook
Organization
Categories
Group notebooks by category:
- Competitors — Competitive analysis materials
- Industry — Market reports and trends
- Users — User research and personas
- Technical — Technical documentation
Tags
Add tags to documents for cross-cutting organization:
- Click + Add Tag on any document
- Create new tags or select existing ones
- Filter by tags across all notebooks
Search
Find content quickly:
- Use the search bar at the top
- Search by title, content, or tags
- Filter by notebook or category
- Results show previews and context
AI Features
Document Summarization
For any document:
- Click the ⋮ menu
- Select Summarize with AI
- Get a concise summary of key points
Ask Questions
Query your knowledge base:
- Click Ask Molley in the notebook view
- Ask questions like:
- "What do our competitors say about pricing?"
- "Summarize the key findings from user research"
- "What trends are mentioned across these documents?"
Extract Insights
AI can analyze multiple documents:
- Select documents to analyze
- Click Extract Insights
- Get synthesized findings across sources
Sharing & Collaboration
Team Access
All notebooks are shared with your team by default. Control access through:
- Company-level notebooks — Available to all members
- Project-level notebooks — Scoped to project team
Export
Export notebooks for external sharing:
- Click Export on any notebook
- Choose format: PDF, ZIP, or Markdown
- Download the compiled content
Best Practices
1. Consistent Naming
Use clear, descriptive names:
- ✅ "Q4 2024 Competitor Analysis"
- ❌ "Research stuff"
2. Regular Curation
Periodically review and organize:
- Archive outdated content
- Update tags and categories
- Remove duplicates
3. Add Context
When saving content, add notes explaining:
- Why this is relevant
- Key takeaways
- How it relates to your project
4. Use Templates
Create notebook templates for common use cases:
- Competitor analysis notebook
